Church Sound System Troubleshooting
Sunday is coming up. If your church sound system isn't working, whether there's no sound, humming speakers, wireless mics dropping, or a Behringer mixer that wont pass audio, I'll diagnose and fix it quickly. I provide on-site services across DFW with same week availability.
Common Problems We Fix
-
Silence on the mains, only monitors work, or only one side plays
-
Wireless mic not working, sound dropping out, nothing is happening, or radio bleeding through the PA
-
Church speakers humming or buzzing, ground loops, bad cabling, power issues, or faulty DI boxes
-
Mixer issues, mis-routed buses, wrong clocking, muted channels, or incorrect gains
-
Distortion, feedback, hot input gain, mis-set compressors, or room EQ issues
-
Stream sounds bad, but room is fine
-
Incorrect bus routing
-
Setting up a dedicated mix for livestream
Brands I service include: Behringer, Allen and Heath, Yamaha, Soundcraft, Shure, Sennheiser, Audio Technica, DBX, QSC, Crown, EV, JBL, Presonus, Focusrite, OBS, and more.
Things You Can Try Before You Call
-
Mute & faders: Check if channels that aren't working are muted, if the main audio is muted, and that the main fader is up
-
Input gain: Ensure that each microphone has input signal (meter lights move on the mixer when you speak)
-
Routing: Confirm the channel is sent to Main L/R (not just to a bus/monitor)
-
Cables & batteries: Swap XLR cables to check for broken cables and put fresh batteries in wireless mics
-
Hum/buzz: Try a different power outlet; test with a different DI; disconnect one device at a time
-
Livestream: Verify the stream feed is from the correct bus
-
If any of this doesn’t resolve it, I’ll come on-site and get you ready for Sunday.
